The Industrial Revolution affected the world of textiles as well; machines like the cotton gin, spinners, and weavers were created to make raw materials easily turned into goods. This was extremely important because the industry of textiles was very inefficient before the revolution. From this article, I can tell that we have inventors from these times to thank for the textile industry’s growth to what it is now, a much more efficient way of doing it. I wonder if the planter’s and farmer’s slaves liked the idea of having machines make the work easier and more efficient?

Before the Industrial Revolution, most of the manufacturing of textiles were done at home by women and children, from the raw cotton materials, "obtained domestically" to the fabric itself. This process was slow and inefficient. The changes in the industry started in the beginning of 1700's, however workers disliked the new machinery and riots broke out. James Hargreaves' jenny was quickly adopted by many factories, it allowed its operator to spin dozens of threads at a time, much like Lewis Paul's machine, but it requires slightly more muscle power. Factories sprung up throughout the countrysides. The conditions were terrible and their wages were even worst. They employed males, females and children, however, males received higher payments than the females and children. The time where people made their clothes domestically transformed to the Domestic System. This new system manufactured more and allowed people (consumers) to have access to more supplies that they need.
Why do you think that Factory System was more efficient and productive than the Domestic System?
