The Industrial Industry also affected the creation of iron; one person in particular, Abraham Darby, successfully produced pig iron smelted with coke. This was a large breakthrough because, previously, people had to smelt pig iron with the use of charcoal and this caused a serious depletion of England’s forests. In this case, the advancement in technology saved the environment from inevitable destruction. I wonder if, at the time, people felt that the decrease in quality because of this breakthrough was worth saving the forests?
Aisha Kazi This paragraph mentions how the iron industry made great changes and improvements. Pig iron which was a new discovery was very significant. It turned to be a very good source of energy as well, even though it caused some damages to the environment. Later with more improvements improved its techniques. Question: Was working in the iron industry hard and required a lot of hard work for the people?I think this links to industrial revolution was all about productivity. With the discovery of Abraham Darby, who successfully smelted pig iron with coke, helped England's forests and created cheaper costs for pig iron. Before Abraham Darby's success, England smelted iron with charcoal, which put a heavy strain on the depleting forests of England. This technique was great, however the iron created using this technique was very brittle which made it difficult to be used for casting for other uses. Despite its poorer quality, it increased the productivity of iron. Later in history, more improvements were made to make the metal easier to cast and use.
Do you think that smelting the pig iron with coke made prices cheaper? Why do you think so?
